BEST AND WORST PLAYER
TEAM RATINGS
Barcelona
1M. ter Stegen
Could not have did much to prevent the opening goal, which took everybody by surprise. Had very little to do as the game went on.3Piqué
Went into the book after a wayward arm into the face of Raillo, which was slightly harsh. Took the game beyond Espanyol with a close range finish to make it 3-1.18Jordi Alba
Was lucky not to see yellow after going in very late on Hernan Perez. Made some decent overlaps on the left, but wasn't at his marauding best.6Dani Alves
Criminally gave the ball away for Espanyol's goal but recovered well and made some decent ventures down the right-hand side.14J. Mascherano
Was more often that not deployed as an extra central midfielder due to the attacking non-entity that Espanyol eventually became.8Iniesta
Teased Espanyol with his command of the ball on the left of midfield and ran rings round the opposition at times with his gliding runs and smart touches.5Busquets
Went about his game effortlessly in the middle of park and tended not to get involved in the fracas which continually seemed to happen.7A. Turan
A very solid debut in front of the Camp Nou crowd. Kept things simple in his passing and forced Pau Lopez into a smart save at the front post.9L. Suárez
Should have got on the scoresheet late on but missed from a few yards out from a tight angle. Wasn't at the races like his striking partners tonight.11Neymar
Was keen to make Espanyol look the foul when he could, through his trickery down the touchline. Grabbed a deserved goal with a superb, volleyed finish into the corner after some terrific link-up with Messi.10L. Messi
Clawed Barca back into the match with a stunning finish into the corner and then turned the scoreline around with a fantastic free kick in off the underside of the bar.
Espanyol
13Pau López
Made some good saves to keep the scoreline low, particularly in the first half, but was always on the cusp of losing his head and was booked in the first period after an altercation with Arda.6E. Roco
Was involved in an ongoing feud with Messi and certainly let the Argentine aware of his presence, but didn't get close to him without committing a foul.5Víctor Álvarez
Poorly played Messi onside for the Barcelona equaliser in the first half, which came only moments after appearing to handle the ball inside the area.16Javi López
Was very lucky not to give away a penalty in the first half as he clearly took Neymar out from behind inside the box, only for the referee to wave play on.24Antonio Raillo
Was pulled out of position far too easily which continually opened up space in behind for Barcelona to exploit.25Marco Asensio
Showed a good reading of the game when he intercepted Dani Alves's wayward pass to steal possession for Espanyol and drive up the pitch to assist the opening goal. Replaced at the break by Salva Sevilla.10Abraham
Set the tone for the game by getting booked very early on for a cynical challenge on Iniesta on the halfway line. Fortuitously tested Ter Stegen with a cross-cum-shot from a free kick that nearly nestled in the corner.12P. Diop
Was up for the fight as expected but was overzealous in his challenges at it seemed inevitable he would see red, which he did for dissent to the ref.20F. Caicedo
Opened the scoring to stun the Camp Nou early on after showing lovely composure inside the area to dance past the defender and pass into the corner. Withdraw due to injury midway through the game.7Gerard Moreno
Continually helped out defence but still got involved in the altercations which were littered all over the pitch, which hampered his attacking potential.17H. Pérez
Managed to ruffle the feathers of the Barca defence with a few penetrative dribbles into the final third, but drifted out of prominence as the game went on and was sent off after two cynical yellows.
